Wild Elephant Valley Ropeway

Xishuangbanna Wild Elephant Valley is located in the Mengyangzi Nature Reserve of Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve and the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve, 22 kilometers away from Jinghong City. It is a national park in China with the theme of animal protection and environmental protection. Archaeological discoveries have proved that Asian elephants were once widely distributed in the Yangtze River Basin, Guangdong, Guangxi and Guizhou, and even as far north as the Yellow River Basin. With the harsh climate and geographical environment, Asian elephants were forced to migrate all the way south. At present, Xishuangbanna is the habitat of Asian elephants in China. The Wild Elephant Valley, located at the junction of the east and west areas of the Mengyang Nature Reserve, is the central channel for the communication and gathering of wild Asian elephants living in the two areas. Through a number of tourist projects such as the high-altitude elephant viewing plank road, rainforest sightseeing cableway, Asian elephant museum, Asian elephant breeding base, and Asian elephant performance school, the Wild Elephant Valley allows tourists to safely observe Asian wild elephants and their living environment without interfering with the lives of Asian elephants. It has become a place in China where tourists can communicate closely with Asian wild elephants and is known as the “bridge of communication between humans and Asian wild elephants.” Wild Elephant Valley is rich in natural resources, with tropical rainforests, South Asian tropical evergreen broad-leaved forests and many rare animal and plant populations. It is a comprehensive ecological tourism Attraction integrating ecotourism, science popularization and scientific research teaching, and leisure and vacation. It has won many honorary titles such as the first batch of “National Ecotourism Demonstration Zone” in China and the “Gold Award of 50 Places Worth Visiting in China” by foreigners. At the same time, Wild Elephant Valley also undertakes many ecological protection scientific research projects such as “National Science Education Base”, “China Yunnan Asian Elephant Seed Provenance Breeding Base” (a cooperative project between Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve Administration and World Wildlife Fund WWF), and Xishuangbanna Wild Butterfly Breeding Research Base.
