Guanling Fossil National Geopark

The Guanling Fossil Group in Anshun is located in Guanling Buyi and Miao Autonomous County in the southwest of Guizhou Province. The planned area is 26 square kilometers, and the protected area is 200 square kilometers. The core area is 0.94 square kilometers. The Guanling Fossil Group is 188 kilometers away from Guiyang City, 52 kilometers away from Huangguoshu Waterfall, and 90 kilometers away from Longgong Cave. The provincial scenic spot Huajiang Grand Canyon is located in the protected area.The ancient fossils buried in the Guanling Fossil Group were formed in the Triassic Bay 220 million years ago. They mainly include marine reptiles such as ichthyosaurs, fin dragons, and ostriches, as well as various crinoids and ammonites, bivalves, conodonts, nautiluses, brachiopods and ancient plant fossils. The Guanling fossils, especially the marine reptile fossils and crinoid fossils, are huge in number, diverse in variety and beautifully preserved, which is rare in the same period of strata around the world.
