Gongjue Linka

Gongjuelinka, also known as Chongjue Forest Palace, is located in the east of Shigatse and was built by the 7th Panchen Lama in 1825. After completion, it was named Deji (Happiness) Sutra Hall. Later, it was changed to Gongjuelin Palace because of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty who gave the golden plaque of “Gongjuelin Palace” written in Tibetan, Han, Mongolian and Manchu languages. In 1954, the Gongjuelin Palace was destroyed by a flood. Now it has been built by the people’s government and turned into Shigatse People’s Park. The garden is surrounded by winding paths, which are connected on all sides, and are placed with stone tables and stone benches. An artificial river has been dug for tourists to go boating. There are pavilions, arch bridges and other scenic spots on the river corridor. On important festivals, people will hold grand garden activities here.
