Tongmai Bridge is the throat project of National Highway 318 of Sichuan-Tibet Highway, and it is a temporary traffic protection project. The bridge is designed as a double-tower double-span suspension bridge spanning Yigong Zangbo, a tributary of Palong Zangbo, with a total length of 258 meters, a main span of 210 meters and a height of 31.5 meters. It turned out that there was a permanent bridge made of reinforced concrete. On April 9, 2000, a huge landslide occurred in Yigong, Tibet. Especially after the dam burst of Yigong Lake, Tongmai Bridge and some nearby roads were washed away. Traffic on the southern Sichuan-Tibet line was completely interrupted, and more than 90 townships in the three counties of Medog, Bomi and Nyingchi became isolated islands. The Tongmai Bridge is a continuity project. The completion of the bridge has enabled the interrupted 318 National Road to be unblocked. Tongmai Bridge is limited to one vehicle at a time. When vehicles cross the bridge, you can clearly feel that the chain bridge is shaking.
