Located in the downtown commercial area of Chongqing’s Yuzhong District surrounding the Liberation Monument, Luohan Temple is rare among China’s ancient temples, in that it is located at the center of the city. Built during the Northern Song Dynasty, it is called the Luohan Temple because it contains nearly 500 individual statues of Buddhist saints (called Luohans or Arhats). Luohan Temple is often full of worshipers and thick with the scent of burning incense. Visitors to the temple can “count the saints” or even search for their own patron saint. Ever since the release of the 2006 Chinese comedy “Crazy Stone”, Luohan Temple has been a very popular place for tourists visiting Chongqing.

Tongjing Scenic Area is located on the bank of Yulin River in the eastern part of Chongqing Yubei District. It is known as the “Nature Museum”. Tongjing Gorge is composed of Wentang Gorge, Bucking Gorge and Laoying Gorge, and is known as the “Little Three Gorges”. The cliffs are tall and green, and there are many bamboos on both sides and the scenery is charming. Three bridges in the caveThere are three natural bridges about 200 meters high. When you look at the funnel between each bridge from the boat, the sky becomes a “slit of sky” and looks like a foot. The three natural bridges span the dark river. The sunlight shines through the natural bridge hole about 10 meters wide, making the river water ripple. The boat goes under the bridge and people swim in the cave, which is a unique experience. Wonders of the Underground RiverAfter crossing the three natural bridges, you will enter the underground river, which is nearly 3 kilometers long. After walking about 1 kilometer, a terraced field appears in front of you, some of which are formed by karst landforms, and some are formed by stalactites. The terraced fields are staggered. After walking about 2 kilometers, a light appears in front of you, which looks like a Tujia axe. That is the exit of the underground river. Cheongdam Three Tides”Sanchaoshui” is located at the foot of Qilin Mountain. On the side facing the mountain is a stone wall about 10 meters high, covered with vines, and on the other three sides are jagged rocks. The pool is surrounded by tracts of willow trees, and the dark green pool water is like a flat mirror, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds. The pool has no upstream water source, and the outlet is a stream about 2 meters wide and 1 meter deep. After several windings, it flows into the Puhua River and then into the Apeng River. Every day, the tide rises three times in the early morning, noon and evening. Wanyanqi Underground RiverAfter entering the canyon and walking about 100 meters, you will be blocked by a cliff about 200 meters high. Under the cliff is a large cave about 100 meters high. This cave is called “black hole” by the locals, also called underground river, and the water of Puhua River flows out of the cave. The rock swallows living in the cave make their nests in the stone holes in the cave. They go out of the cave to look for food in the morning and evening. When the sun is high, they rest in the cave and spend the night in the cave.
